Julian De Guzman -- Scarborough, Ontario, born-and-raised midfielder and Toronto FC's first designated player who was discovered by representatives of Olympique Marseille while playing for the North Scarborough Soccer Club.  Julian De Guzman played with Marseille's reserve side until becoming a first-team regular with 1. FC Saarbrücken in the German Second Bundesliga in 2001-02, joined newly promoted Hannover 96 to become only the third Canadian to play in the German First Bundesliga where he played three seasons before joining Deportivo La Coruña in a starring role in the club's remarkable turnaround in the 2007-2008 season to avoid relegation and gain a spot in the UEFA Cup and was named the team's player of the season, signed as Toronto FC's designated player in September 2009, and a stalwart of Canada's national team with 40 caps.
